Shear deformation analysis for woven fabrics
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new mechanical model is proposed in this paper to evaluate the shearing properties for woven fabrics during the initial slip region. Compared to the existing mechanical model for fabric shear, this model involves not only bending but also torsion of curved yarns. This model has the advantage of taking into consideration the yarn undulation in fabrics while keeping mathematical rigor. Moreover, an erroneous formula in the previous research work from a referenced paper is modified. Analytical results show that this model provides better agreement with the experiments for both the initial shear modulus and slipping angle than the existing model. The approach for this model can be extended to predict other mechanical properties of fabrics in order to obtain more precise results. 2004 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Simulate the Dynamic Draping Behavior of Woven and Knitted Fabrics
In this article a practical mass-spring system was developed to simulate the draping of woven and knitted fabrics. The material properties important to fabric drape, including aerial density, tensile, shear, and bending properties were measured using the Kawabata Evaluation System and the experimental data were incorporated into the mass-spring model to simulate the dynamic draping behavior of ...
متن کاملAn Analytical Study of Initial Shear Behavior of Plain Woven Hybrid Fabrics
During recent years, the fabrics made from different yarns have been used for industrial purposes such as composite materials. Given the importance of the shear properties of these fabrics, a mechanical model based on the Grosberg and Park's Model for hybrid plain-woven fabrics is proposed. In this model, using the Energy method, the initial load-shear angle behavior of hybrid fabrics is calcul...
متن کاملExperimental Determination of Material Properties for Inflatable Aeroshell Structures
As part of a deployable aeroshell development effort, system design, materials evaluation, and analysis methods are under investigation. One specific objective is to validate finite element analysis techniques used to predict the deformation and stress fields of aeroshell inflatable structures under aerodynamic loads. In this paper, we discuss the results of an experimental mechanics study cond...
متن کاملEffect of Specimen History on Structure and In-Plane Permeability of Woven Fabrics
Before being processed into composites, reinforcement fabrics may undergo repeated involuntary deformation, the complete sequence of which is here referred to as specimen history. To mimic its effect, fabric specimens were subjected to sequences of defined shear operations. For single fabric layers with unconstrained thickness, quantitative evaluation of photographic image data indicated that r...
